Tracking Instagram Traffic on Google Analytics
The most reliable way to measure Instagram traffic in Google Analytics so far is to add campaign tracking parameters (UTM tags) to destination URLs. Not only does this apply to Instagram, but also to any external source that’s meant to drive traffic to your website. UTM tagging is a proven practice to ensure that Google Analytics interprets that traffic exactly the way you want it to.
In order to track the Instagram traffic, please do the following steps:
Using Campaign URL builder by Google, set a new campaign. please see the screenshot below.
Set the Website URL to the URL you want to track on your Instagram post.
Set the Campaign Source to instagram
Set the Campaign Medium to social
Set the Campaign Name to track_traffic
Next, just click on Copy URL on the generated link.
Change the links on your Instagram post to the URL you've copied. People clicking on this link will make Google Analytics track the site's traffic from Instagram.
